Does anyone know the date of the last church service at San Agustin church. A hurricane severely damaged the small church beyond repair. The hurricane was in 1942, maybe. If you have heard any thing different, please respond.
We will be having a family tree meeting on saturday, May 29. in Pleasanton at Terri Guzman's house. Please help us complete the tree. Many names have been added since the last reunion. Get your branch together and come and join us. Meeting starts at 9am and will go on till the work is complete. We still need more of the Bonilla family information. Please call me at 830-569-4717.
The Cosme family will be providing a cup cake birthday cake for the reunion. We will acknowledge all that have birthdays on or near the reunion date. If you or someone you know have a birthday around that time, please let us know. You can still have a party, there, with your family. Extended family, very extended family. Thanks Mona for this great idea!
Do you know what an "overbringer" is? I do now. Thanks to Louis Rodriguez. Louis is the great grandson of Justo Rodriguez. Justo was an overbringer. Have you ever wondered what happened to the land that the heirs of Gregorio Esparza were entitled to? Joe Huizar and I have been trying to find that answer and it looks like that question will be answered by reunion time. It took a lot of time and gas but it has been worth it. We will have maps on display along with the documents that go along with them. Erlinda Huizar was a big help.- Benny
At our first reunion meeting we elected officers and committee members. I have been working on our family tree for some time now and this seemed to be a good time try and have this completed. I talked with many relatives who are doing the same thing and it looks to me that we have a really good group of people working on it now. Socorro Morales, Louis Rodriguez, Joe Huizar, Eloy Huizar, george Benevides and will be working together to try and accomplish this goal we all share. email@example.com

The descendants of Gregorio and Ana Esparza will be gathering this summer, July 10, 2010, in Pleasanton Texas at the Pleasanton River Park. It is already well known that Gregorio Esparza fought and died at the Alamo. We also know that his wife, Ana Salazar Esparza, was in the Alamo during the siege and battle. We know that Gregorio was the only Tejano to be given a christian burial. We also know that they took their children into the Alamo with them.
Ana and the children all survived. Ana, after having met with Santa Anna had to raise her daughter, Maria de Jesus Castro, and her three sons, Enrique, Manuel and Francisco by herself.
Before the 1850's, Ana and Maria de Jesus had past away, leaving the boys without parents. The brothers went south to Atascosa County looking for a better life. Each of the brothers filed for and received 160 acres of Pre-Empted land. They, along with other families in the area, built the small community of San Agustin. The community has been gone for sometime now, but its memory will be celebrated at this reunion. Lets all come Home to Atascosa County in July.
